Walk And Talk

“Walk & Talk to End Social Isolation” is a public, annual event. During October, you can walk on your own or in small groups, following social distancing guidelines. We will invite you to post pictures, stories, and memories of your walk on social media, using our hashtag. The event will end with an online celebration where speakers will share stories of their own to inform and inspire those who are struggling with, and overcoming loneliness and social isolation.

The impact of social isolation and loneliness on mental and physical health was significant even before Covid-19 mandated social distancing. Now 54% of Canadians report feeling isolated. The issue reflected in a multitude of recent media stories. The long-term effect is often hidden, but it can manifest in the person through fatigue, irritability and sometimes lack of productivity.

Alleviating the pain through friendship.

Coffee Shop Winter Party

This event was so simple to plan, but the impact lasted a long long time. The main purpose of the Coffee Shop Winter Party in Starbucks was to invite people who didn’t have family or friends to hang out with. Thankfully the Manager, Fahad agreed to host the event. The impact? Smiles from ear-to-ear, two strangers become friends, from the storytelling we realized we are really not alone when we let people in.

Others get job interviews from referrals and for sure, we feel less isolated and lonely because we made connections.
